Bear & Birches was born from the realization that fleeting fashion costs the planet more than we can afford. For too long, the fashion industry has fueled a cycle of waste, accounting for 8-10% of global carbon emissions and sending millions of tons of textiles to landfills each year. Just one pair of jeans can generate over 33 kg of CO2 and guzzle up to 10,000 liters of water, making it clear that the way we consume clothing needs to change.
With over 25 years of experience in environmental policy, our founders understood that treaties and agreements alone can't save the planet—personal, direct action is needed outside the boardroom. Tackling climate change requires hands-on efforts from all of us — it demands a change in the way we live, the way we consume, and, yes, the way we dress.
That’s why Bear & Birches was created—to reverse these alarming trends. Our founders left their corporate roles, rolling up their sleeves to build a brand that embodies the change they wished to see. More than just premium denim, Bear & Birches stands against an industry that harms the planet.
